December 26 - January 1
Created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Kwanzaa, an African American and pan-African holiday, celebrating family, community and culture. The observance lasts seven days, beginning on December 26th and ending on January 1st.
Kwanzaa is an American American and pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community, history and culture. For over 50 years, Kwanzaa has brought love, joy and togetherness to African-American families and communities.
Formally Metro Atlanta Kwanzaa Association (MAKA), the Atlanta Regional Kwanzaa Association (ARKA) continues to bring events, education and culture to metro Atlanta. Every year, we compile a list of Kwanzaa events that are happening in the community for your convenience. Check out our Events page and plan out your holiday activities!
